Osteomalacia
Osteomalacia is a condition characterized by softening of the bones due to an inadequate level of minerals such as calcium and phosphorus. This condition may lead to severe pain, fractures, and deformity. It is most commonly caused by a lack of vitamin D, which is necessary for the proper absorption of minerals. Treatment typically involves supplementation of vitamin D and calcium, along with dietary adjustments. Osteomalacia is an important condition to identify and treat, as it can lead to long-term disability if left untreated.
