Osteogenesis Imperfecta

Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a genetic disorder that affects the bones. People with OI are born with weak bones that are brittle and easily broken, making them more prone to fractures. OI is caused by an abnormality in the genes that control how our bodies make collagen, which is an important protein in the body that helps form our bones. The severity of OI can vary from mild to severe and is typically diagnosed shortly after birth. Treatment for OI consists of physical therapy, pain relief, and bone strengthening medications, as well as lifestyle changes and strategies to avoid fractures. OI is a lifelong condition, and early diagnosis and treatment can help people live more active, healthy lives.
