Orthopedics is a branch of medicine focused on the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system. The musculoskeletal system includes bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves, and orthopedics is concerned with all aspects of their care. Orthopedic treatments vary according to the problem and can range from medications and physical therapy to surgery. Orthopedists provide vital services to athletes and the general public, helping to prevent and treat injuries and improve quality of life.
