Femoral Neck Fracture
A femoral neck fracture is a break in the neck of the thighbone (femur). It is the most common type of hip fracture, occurring most often in older adults as a result of falls, trauma, or osteoporosis. Femoral neck fractures can cause significant pain, disability, and loss of independence, as well as putting an individual at risk of developing osteonecrosis (death of the bone). Treatment often requires surgical fixation, with the goal of restoring the patient's range of motion, strength, and ability to walk. Physical therapy is also often needed to help the patient regain their full function.
