Eosinophilia
Eosinophilia is an increase in the number of white blood cells called eosinophils in the body, often in response to an allergic reaction. These eosinophils play an important role in the body's immune system, helping to protect it from viruses, bacteria, and other foreign substances. When eosinophilia is present, the body's ability to fight off these infections or allergens is enhanced. Eosinophilia can also be caused by certain cancers and autoimmune diseases, and is often monitored as a marker of disease activity in these cases. Treatment is aimed at the underlying cause of the eosinophilia.
