Cytopenia

Cytopenia is an abnormally low count of any type of blood cell in the body, such as red blood cells (anemia), white blood cells (leukopenia) or platelets (thrombocytopenia). It is a common symptom of many types of illnesses and can cause a wide range of potential health issues. Diagnosis and treatment of cytopenia is important to help reduce the risk of serious side effects, including anemia, infections, and bleeding. Treatments may include medications or lifestyle changes, or, in more severe cases, a blood transfusion.
