Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy
A radical retropubic prostatectomy is a surgical procedure used to treat prostate cancer. This surgery involves the removal of the entire prostate gland, and many of the surrounding tissues, which helps reduce the risk of the cancer spreading. The surgery is performed through an abdominal incision made between the pubic bone and navel. After the prostate is removed, the bladder is reconnected to the urethra to allow for urination, and it may be necessary to insert a urinary catheter into the bladder to help with bladder control. This surgery is an effective way to treat prostate cancer and has been proven to reduce the risk of recurrence and long-term side effects in some patients.
