Hemophilia
Hemophilia is an inherited disorder in which the blood does not clot normally due to a lack of certain proteins called clotting factors. This causes affected individuals to experience prolonged bleeding from even minor cuts or injuries. Hemophilia is most commonly found in males, although it can affect females as well. Without prompt treatment, bleeding can lead to serious health complications, increased risk of infection, and even death. Treatment for hemophilia involves replacing the missing clotting factors through concentrates of clotting or the clotting gene itself. These treatments can help people with hemophilia live longer, healthier lives.
