Pharmacogenetics

Pharmacogenetics is the study of how genetic variations affect the way an individual responds to drugs. It is a relatively new area of pharmacology which uses genetic tools to help predict and improve drug response in patients by establishing the most effective, safe and personalized drug regimen. This helps reduce the risk of adverse drug reactions and improves the efficacy of medications. Pharmacogenetics is useful in helping customize drug dosing, making it more effective for different individuals, and in helping to determine the best drugs for a particular person. It is increasingly being used in the field of personalized medicine as a way to tailor treatments to an individual's genetic makeup.
