Metabolic Pathway

A metabolic pathway is a series of biochemical reactions in a living organism that is used to produce energy, build new molecules, and break down molecules. The metabolic pathways within cells are complex, and they involve hundreds of different enzymes and other proteins. Metabolic pathways are important to the functioning of most life forms as they provide the energy and raw materials as well as help to regulate many physiological processes. Additionally, they also ensure proper breakdown of nutrients such as carbohydrates and lipids and assist in the synthesis of essential biomolecules such as amino acids and nucleic acids. Furthermore, metabolic pathways are essential for human health and disease, as many diseases are due to the disruption of the pathways. As a result, the study of metabolic pathways is highly important for developing effective therapies for diseases.
