Ethnopharmacology is the interdisciplinary scientific study of the relationship between cultures and the medicinal use of plants and other substances. It is a branch of pharmacology that focuses on the traditional use of plants for medicinal purposes, and on the knowledge and beliefs related to them. Ethnopharmacological studies are essential to preserving important cultural practices and knowledge, and can help to identify new sources of medicines and other therapeutic agents. Ethnopharmacology is also significant in understanding the history of human interaction with the environment, and for developing pharmacological treatments for various diseases and health conditions.
