Carbohydrates Biochemistry

Carbohydrates are a type of macronutrient found in many foods. They are composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, and are the main source of energy for the body. They are important for many metabolic processes, such as energy storage and the synthesis of other biomolecules. Carbohydrates are fundamental for the structure and regulation of many biochemical pathways; they are present in the cellular membrane and involved in transmembrane signaling. Moreover, they are involved in the immune system, acting as signaling molecules and contributing to the pathogen recognition and response. Carbohydrates are essential components of the human diet and are critical for our health and well-being.
