Sustainable Aquaculture

Sustainable aquaculture is a type of farming that involves the culture and harvesting of fish, shellfish, and other aquatic animals while minimizing negative environmental impacts. This form of agriculture uses techniques such as closed-system recirculating aquaculture systems, protected culture systems, integrated multi-trophic aquaculture and organic aquaculture, as well as other innovative practices, to ensure that resources are used efficiently and in a way that does not harm the surrounding environment. Sustainable aquaculture provides a reliable source of food for many people around the world, while also preserving fish stocks, providing economic opportunities for local communities, and promoting the health of ecosystems. Additionally, it presents a viable alternative to overfishing and has the potential to reduce pressure on the world’s wild fish stocks. Sustainable aquaculture is an important step forward for sustainable food production and is increasingly being adopted around the world.
