Recirculating Aquaculture Systems
Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) are closed-loop systems used to raise aquatic animals, such as fish, oysters, and shrimp, in a controlled environment. They use oxygenated, heated water that is circulated through a series of components, typically tanks, filters, and pumps, for water treatment and management. In RAS, water is recirculated and re-used, allowing for a more efficient and sustainable use of resources. RAS offer several advantages, such as higher production efficiency and increased control over water quality, when compared to traditional aquaculture practices. Furthermore, RAS provide a more productive, higher quality, and less expensive alternative to open-water aquaculture systems, making them an excellent choice for farmers and commercial aquaculture operations.
