Oceanography
Oceanography is the study of the Earth's oceans. It is a field of science that examines the physical, chemical, and biological components of the oceans, as well as their interaction with the environment and with humans. Oceanographers study processes such as the circulation of marine currents and the dynamics of the ocean floor, as well as the distribution of life in the seas. Oceanography is an important field for understanding climate change and its effects on marine ecosystems, as well as for providing resources of food, energy, and minerals that are important to human populations. Oceanographers also play an important role in the search and rescue of ships and aircrafts, and in the study of marine disasters such as oil spills and landslides. Their work also contributes to our understanding of the ocean's role in regulating global temperatures and ocean acidification, which are both important issues in the contemporary world.
