Molluscs
Molluscs are a diverse phylum of animals, including snails, clams, octopuses, and squid. They have an evolved body plan that is characterized by a three-layered body wall, a muscular foot, and a mantle cavity in which the gills and other organs are located. Molluscs are among the most diverse and abundant animals on the planet and are found in a wide range of habitats, including both terrestrial and aquatic environments. They play an important role in marine, freshwater, and terrestrial ecosystems, providing food and services to humans. Molluscs also have many economic uses, such as providing food sources and valuable materials, such as pearls and shells, in jewelry and artwork. Understanding and conserving molluscs is important for maintaining the health of our planet's ecosystems.
