Fisheries Science

Fisheries science is a field of science which explores aquatic ecosystems, focusing on the sustainability of fisheries and their resources. It aims to conserve, manage, and restore fish populations for both ecological and economic benefits. Fisheries science utilizes methods from ecology, economics, biology, chemistry, and other sciences to understand the interactions of organisms and the environment. It is of utmost importance in the conservation and management of aquatic life and provides insight into the effects of human activities on the environment. Fisheries science is used to develop strategies for ecosystem-based management of fisheries, ecotourism, and aquaculture, and also to inform policies for mitigating climate change and for sustainable use of resources.
