Coral Breeding
Coral breeding is a method used to help protect and restore coral reefs. It involves taking coral fragments from the wild and allowing them to reproduce in a controlled environment, such as a laboratory or a coral farm. This process helps to increase the genetic diversity of the corals, making them more resilient and better able to withstand environmental stressors such as warming oceans and pollution. The success of coral breeding also relies on growing and maintaining healthy corals in the lab to be used in reef rehabilitation. Coral breeding has the potential to not only restore damaged reefs but also to help replenish areas that have been overharvested by humans. Additionally, it has provided scientists with valuable genetic information that can be used to inform conservation strategies.
