Chemical Oceanography
Chemical oceanography is a branch of oceanography that studies the ocean's chemical composition, its sources and its behavior in response to various processes such as climate change. Chemical oceanography looks at the ocean's role in regulating Earth's climate and biogeochemical cycling of elements, nutrients, and pollutants. It is a valuable tool for protecting and managing human activities on the ocean, such as fisheries and oil drilling, by understanding the effects of our activities on the ocean's chemistry. Chemical oceanography is also used to understand and predict the impacts of climate change on oceanic circulation, the marine food web, and the health of marine ecosystems. It also aids in the discovery of rare elements and minerals that can serve as important resources for mankind.
