Algaculture

Algaculture is the term used to refer to the farming of certain types of algae as a food source or as a source of useful substances like bioplastics or biofuels. Algaculture is an important part of sustainable aquaculture systems, which provide food and useful products while protecting marine ecosystems. Algaecultured products are increasingly used in the food and cosmetics industries, and their potential as a source of renewable energy is also being explored. Algae farming also helps to improve water quality, reducing water pollution and providing habitat for other organisms. Algaculture has the potential to become an important part of the future of aquaculture.
