Toxicology

Toxicology is the scientific study of the adverse effects that chemicals, radiation, and other types of physical agents can have on organisms. It is the branch of science that deals with the adverse effects of substances on living organisms, their environment, and public health. Toxicologists research the health effects of environmental contaminants, like air and water pollution, radiation, and occupational exposures. They also study the potential risks of new drugs, chemicals, and food additives; assess the toxicity of food, consumer products, and medicines; and evaluate regulatory policies based on health and safety data. Toxicology is an essential discipline for protecting public health, and its importance is only increasing as global environmental pollution and exposures to synthetic chemicals increase.
