Shigellosis is an infectious disease caused by bacteria of the genus Shigella. It is one of the leading causes of diarrhoeal disease worldwide, particularly in developing countries. Symptoms of shigellosis include abdominal pain, cramping, fever, and diarrhoea, which can be severe and sometimes contain blood or pus. Treatment for shigellosis includes antibiotics and proper hydration. To prevent shigellosis, proper handwashing techniques should be practiced, and food and water should be obtained from safe sources. Shigellosis is a significant health concern and those infected should be treated promptly to reduce the spread of infection.
