Empiric Therapy
Empiric therapy is the process of prescribing medicines based on the symptoms displayed by a patient, rather than on the diagnosis of a disease. It is an essential part of modern healthcare, as it allows for an immediate treatment for the patient’s symptoms, often before the underlying disease can be properly diagnosed. This allows for quick relief and improved quality of life for the patient. Empiric therapy can also be used to reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance and to prevent unnecessary tests, which can reduce healthcare costs.
