Chemoprophylaxis
Chemoprophylaxis is the use of medicines to prevent the development of infectious diseases. It is a type of preventive medicine that works by blocking pathogens from entering the body or halting their reproduction. Examples include using antibiotics to prevent bacterial infections and using antiretroviral drugs to prevent HIV infection. Chemoprophylaxis is an important practice in the field of public health, as it can protect entire populations from the spread of disease. Additionally, the use of chemoprophylaxis can provide individual protection against life-threatening diseases and reduce the need for more aggressive treatments.
