Antigenic Cartography

Antigenic cartography is an important tool used in epidemiology and immunology to map the evolution of viruses, such as influenza. It uses techniques from antigenic analysis to identify the main features of viruses, such as the shape of their surface proteins. This information is then used to create antigenic maps, which are graphical depictions of the evolution of a virus over time. These maps provide insights into the evolution of viruses, allowing researchers to predict how they may mutate in the future. By better understanding the evolution of viruses, scientists can develop more effective vaccines and treatments, as well as provide better forecasting to prepare for potential pandemics.
