Anthrax

Anthrax is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis. It mainly affects animals and is more rarely transmitted to humans, usually through contact with infected animal products. In humans, it can cause a range of illnesses, from mild skin infection (cutaneous anthrax) to severe inhalation infection (pulmonary anthrax). Treatment with antibiotics is recommended for infected individuals. Vaccines are available to prevent infection in humans, as well as livestock.
