Tiopronin

Tiopronin, chemical name mesna, is a medication that is used to protect the bladder from the effects of chemotherapy drugs. It is administered before and after chemotherapy treatments, and works by preventing the chemotherapy from damaging the lining of the bladder. Tiopronin has been found to be very effective in reducing the risk of developing bladder cancer, which is a side effect of certain chemotherapy drugs. Tiopronin has also been found to be helpful in reducing the risk of other kinds of bladder problems, such as bladder infections. Furthermore, tiopronin has been used to treat a variety of other urinary tract problems as well.
