Metabolism

Metabolism refers to all the chemical processes that happen within a living organism. It is the way cells generate energy and turn food and other substances into the building blocks of life, breaking them down for energy, growth and repair. Metabolism is essential for life; without it, cells could not function, and organisms would not survive. It is also important for allowing organisms to adapt to their environment, allowing them to grow, reproduce and respond to changes in the environment. Metabolism can be affected by genetic influences, hormones, lifestyle and age, which is why it is important to understand the metabolic pathways in order to diagnose and treat health problems related to metabolic disorders.
