Ethionine
Ethionine (2-amino-4-ethylthiophene-3-carboxylic acid) is an essential amino acid, meaning that it is required by the body and must be obtained through the diet. It is a sulfur-containing amino acid found in higher levels in wheat germ, Brazil nuts, and brewer’s yeast. It is important in the metabolism of fat and carbohydrates, and can help to reduce the risk of certain diseases such as cancer. In the body, ethionine is involved in detoxification, improving nerve cell communication, and is an antioxidant. It is also used to make medicines, supplements, and food additives.
