Pneumothorax
Pneumothorax is a medical condition in which air accumulates in the space between the lungs and the chest wall, resulting in collapse of the affected lung. It can be caused by trauma (due to a chest injury), a medical procedure (such as a chest tube insertion or certain types of lung surgery), or a spontaneous rupture of a blistered lung. Symptoms of pneumothorax include chest pain and difficulty breathing. Treatment typically involves relieving the pressure caused by the trapped air, and may include the use of a chest tube. In severe cases, surgery may be necessary. Pneumothorax is a potentially life-threatening condition, and early diagnosis and treatment is important for a successful outcome.
