Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome
Obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS) is a medical condition in which excess body fat leads to poor respiratory function and low oxygen levels in the bloodstream. People with OHS can experience a range of symptoms, including fatigue, sleep apnea, headaches, and palpitations. OHS is more common in people who are obese and is a risk factor for other conditions such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Treatment for OHS usually involves lifestyle changes, such as adopting a healthy diet and participating in regular physical activity, as well as potentially using oxygen therapy, medications, and surgery. Early detection and prompt treatment of OHS can be important in helping to prevent or manage other associated health issues.
