Latex Allergy

Latex allergy is a medical condition wherein an allergic reaction occurs when the body is exposed to latex, a natural rubber. People with latex allergy experience symptoms like itching, hives, sneezing and wheezing after contact with latex products like balloons, medical devices, rubber gloves and condoms. Latex allergy has become more prevalent in recent years due to increased use of latex products and exposure to latex proteins. Treatment for latex allergy includes avoiding contact with latex-containing products and administering epinephrine in the event of a severe allergic reaction. Latex allergy can be life-threatening and cause difficulty breathing, so it is important for people with a known latex allergy to be aware of the potential triggers.
