Food Preservatives
Food preservatives are substances used to prolong the shelf life of food products. They work by preventing the growth of microorganisms, such as bacteria and fungi, which can cause food spoilage. Preservatives can also reduce the chances of food containing toxic compounds. Examples of preservatives include benzoic acid, sorbic acid, sodium nitrite, and propionic acid. The use of food preservatives is important in helping to reduce food waste and keeping food safe to eat for a longer period of time.
