Epidemiology

Epidemiology is the study of the health of populations, to identify patterns and causes of health and illness in a population. It is a science that investigates the cause, distribution and control of disease in humans and other animals. Epidemiologists use a variety of methods to gather information, including surveys, interviews, analysis of existing data and physical examinations. This data can then be used to inform public health policy, identify risk factors and develop prevention interventions. In addition, epidemiology can also be used to identify potential areas of research, to evaluate interventions and to provide information on the benefits of preventive activities.
