Desensitization
Desensitization is a type of behavior therapy used to treat anxiety, phobias and other psychological problems. It involves gradually exposing the patient to the source of their fear in a safe environment. During the process, the patient is taught coping skills and relaxation techniques. The goal is to reduce or eliminate their fear or anxiety response. Desensitization can also be used to help with conditions such as anger, grief and post-traumatic stress disorder. This therapy can help patients gain a sense of control, confidence and relief from their emotional and physical reactions.
