Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome
Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is an acquired condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It weakens the immune system and can lead to certain types of cancer and infections. AIDS is a global pandemic and is one of the most serious public health issues today. Early detection and treatment are essential to controlling the spread of the virus. Medications, antiretroviral therapy, and lifestyle modifications are some of the ways to manage the virus and its symptoms. Prevention is best achieved through the use of condoms and avoiding unprotected sex, as well as avoiding sharing needles or other injection equipment. HIV testing is recommended for all potential partners prior to engaging in sexual intercourse.
