Panayiotopoulos Syndrome
Panayiotopoulos Syndrome (PS) is a rare childhood seizure disorder characterized by frequent, prolonged, and uncomplicated seizures. These seizures usually begin in the early morning hours and may last from minutes to hours. PS is believed to be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. It is also associated with other medical conditions, such as kidney and liver disease, as well as development delay. Treatment for PS is focused on controlling the seizures and reducing potential complications. Treatment options include antiepileptic drugs, dietary interventions, and in some cases, surgery. Early diagnosis and proper treatment of PS can help children achieve better seizure control and possibly reduce long-term complications.
