Etiology

Etiology is the scientific field of study concerned with the cause and origin of a particular disease or condition. It focuses on identifying the factors that contribute to the development and progression of a disorder, such as genetic and environmental influences, lifestyle factors, and infectious agents. Etiology can also assess an individual’s risk for a particular disease or condition and aid in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of illnesses. Thus, etiological knowledge is invaluable in improving public health, as understanding the causes of a medical condition can help inform prevention, diagnosis, and management strategies.
