Essential Tremor

Essential tremor is a neurological disorder that causes rhythmic, involuntary shaking of the hands, arms, head and/or voice. It affects approximately 10 million people in the United States, making it the most common neurological disorder after Parkinson’s disease. The exact cause of essential tremor is unknown, but it is thought to be related to an abnormality in the cerebellum, the part of the brain that controls movement and coordination. Essential tremor is usually treated with medications, lifestyle modifications, surgical procedures, and deep brain stimulation. Treatment aims to reduce symptoms, improve quality of life and provide relief from disability caused by the condition.
