Epileptic Seizures

Epileptic seizures are sudden and excessive electrical discharges from groups of neurons in the brain. They can produce a range of physical symptoms including uncontrollable body movements and loss of consciousness. These seizures can have serious consequences for the sufferer, including injury and cognitive impairment. They are the most common neurological disorder, affecting around 1 in 100 people worldwide. Diagnosis and treatment of epileptic seizures has advanced significantly in recent years and there are now many effective therapies, including medication and surgery, that can reduce the frequency and severity of seizures. In some cases, seizures can even be eliminated completely. Effective management of epileptic seizures is essential to ensure quality of life for the sufferer.
