Pain Medicine
Pain medicine is a type of medication used to reduce pain caused by injury, surgery, or medical conditions such as chronic pain, arthritis, and cancer. Pain medicines can come in various forms, including oral tablets, topical ointments and gels, injection, and patches. Common medications used to help manage pain include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), opioids, and antidepressants. Pain medicine plays an important role in helping people manage chronic pain, a condition that affects more than 100 million people in the United States and is responsible for a significant amount of disability and economic burden. Pain medicine is critical for improving quality of life for those living with chronic pain, allowing them to work, enjoy activities, and live a fuller life.
