Diagnostic
Microbiology Diagnostic Microbiology is a branch of microbiology that focuses on the identification of microorganisms in clinical specimens. It plays an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases, and is used for the detection of both pathogenic and non-pathogenic microorganisms. Diagnostic Microbiology is used to monitor the presence of organisms in the environment, to detect and identify contaminants, and to diagnose and treat infections. In addition, it can be used to assess the success of treatments, and to detect and monitor emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. The techniques used in Diagnostic Microbiology include direct culture, biochemical testing, serology, genetic and antigenic testing, and more recently, molecular methods such as PCR.
