Frozen Embryo Transfer
Frozen embryo transfer is a fertility treatment that involves transferring embryos that have been created and then frozen during an earlier in vitro fertilization cycle for use in a current cycle. The frozen embryos are thawed before implantation in the woman’s uterus. Using frozen embryos instead of fresh ones has the advantage that the woman does not need to go through the hormone stimulation process and egg retrieval procedure twice. It also allows for a greater range of embryos to choose from, since more embryos can be frozen from one cycle than can be transferred in one cycle. Frozen embryo transfer can increase a couple’s chances for a successful pregnancy and is a useful tool for fertility treatments.
