Kawasaki Disease
Kawasaki Disease is a rare childhood illness that causes inflammation in the walls of the blood vessels. It is most common in children (under 5 years of age) in the Asian-Pacific region, but can be found worldwide. Symptoms include fever, rash, swollen lymph nodes, and red eyes and lips. If left untreated, it can lead to serious complications, including aneurysms, heart damage, and stroke. Treatment with high dose intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG) and aspirin usually leads to a full recovery. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential to reduce the risk of long-term consequences.
