Emphysema

Emphysema is a form of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) that causes damage to the tiny air sacs, called alveoli, in the lungs. This damage makes it difficult to breathe and reduces the amount of oxygen that can enter the blood. Emphysema is a progressive disease and there is no cure, but treatments, such as bronchodilators, corticosteroids, and oxygen therapy, can help improve symptoms and reduce flare-ups. Smoking cessation is the most important step for individuals who suffer from this condition. Early diagnosis and regular monitoring are key to managing and controlling the disease.
