Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer
Hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC) is a type of cancer that is caused by an inherited gene defect, and is the most common type of hereditary colorectal cancer. It is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition that requires regular screenings to detect the early stages. HNPCC can increase a person's risk for certain other types of cancers, including endometrial and ovarian cancer. Treatment for HNPCC may include surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy. Early diagnosis and treatment for HNPCC can improve the chances of survival.
