Hemochromatosis

Hemochromatosis is an inherited disorder in which the body absorbs and stores too much iron from food. It can lead to serious health problems, including liver cirrhosis, heart failure, arthritis, and diabetes. Without treatment, it can be fatal. Early diagnosis and treatment are important for keeping this condition under control. Treatment consists of a diet low in iron, regular blood tests to monitor iron levels, and, in some cases, iron removal from the blood.
