Genetic Testing

Genetic testing is a laboratory procedure used to detect changes in a person’s genetic material (DNA and RNA). It is used to diagnose genetic disorders and inherited traits, identify risk factors for specific diseases, assess genetic risks to family members, determine eligibility for certain medical treatments, and provide information needed for medical decision making. It has become increasingly important in medical care as genetic information can be used to create more effective and targeted treatments. Additionally, the results from genetic testing can help inform an individual’s health decisions, such as lifestyle changes, medication selection, and other treatments.
