Surgical Oncology

Surgical Oncology involves the diagnosis and treatment of cancerous tumors through surgical intervention. This cancer treatment mode requires highly skilled doctors who are specialized in cancer diagnosis, staging, and treatment, including surgical procedures. Surgical oncologists work closely with other cancer specialists, such as medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and pathologists, to develop comprehensive cancer treatment plans. Surgical oncologists are responsible for removing cancerous tumors and tissues from the patient's body. As cancer is likely to spread to other parts of the body, surgical oncologists often remove surrounding tissues, organs, and lymph nodes to prevent cancer's growth in the future. The oncologist's primary goal is to remove cancer while preserving the affected body parts' function and form. Surgical procedures are beneficial in treating various types of cancer, such as breast cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, gynecologic cancer, and many more. Surgery may serve as the only treatment option for some tumors, or it may be combined with other treatment modalities such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy. In conclusion, surgical oncology plays a vital role in cancer disease management. Timely and accurate diagnosis followed by surgical interventions often contributes to better patient outcomes. So if you or your loved ones are diagnosed with cancer, surgical oncology is one of the most effective treatment modalities worth considering.
