Insulin Secretion
Insulin secretion is a critical physiological process where the pancreas releases insulin hormones into the bloodstream in response to elevated glucose levels. Insulin plays a key role in regulating blood sugar levels and glucose metabolism by controlling the uptake of glucose into cells and its storage as glycogen. In addition, insulin is responsible for the regulation of fat and protein metabolism. Dysfunction in insulin secretion can lead to various disorders such as diabetes mellitus, which is characterized by hyperglycemia. Elevated glucose levels can damage the blood vessels, increase the risk of stroke and heart attacks, as well as other health complications. Optimal treatment for patients with diabetes should involve a healthy diet, physical activity, and if necessary, insulin injections to maintain healthy glucose levels.
